Print Merit Competition – Judge Malcolm Bull
We were very pleased to welcome our judge for the evening, Malcolm Bull. Malcolm was our judge for our only Print competition last season, so it was good for him to return for our 1st Print Merit competition of the season. Malcolm is a member of Steyning Camera Club and an accredited Southern Photographic Federation Judge.
As this was a Merit competition the images were submitted under three categories of photographer – Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced. We had a total of 45 Prints entered (7 in the Beginners’ class; 23 in the Intermediate Class; and 15 in the Advanced Class. The standard of entries was good and a wide variety of subject for Malcom to critique and score. Malcolm discussed every image in detail and gave hints and tips throughout the evening, including a few about how prints were mounted (tight cropping within the cutout, and mounts within mounts) and the sharpness, or lack of in individual prints.
Following the judging in each class Malcolm selected the Class winner. The three class winners went forward for the ‘Best in Competition’, which went to Mirza Khurrum Baig for his image “Runner on the beach”.
The winners from each group category were:
Beginners – Celia Buckley “Warnes”;
Intermediate – Barry Chidlow “Let the Sun Shine In”; and
Advanced – Mirza Khurrum Baig “Runner on the Beach”

Congratulations to all of the winners, and to all of our members for entering such an amazing collection of beautiful prints and supporting the club.
Our very grateful thanks go to Malcolm for his excellent judging, comments and critiques.
