Our annual “Funghi Hunt” took place yesterday. The Funghi themselves were thin on the ground, but we did manage to find a few; or rather our resident forager John N did.
It was recommended we follow the “Heathland Trail”, which we duly did. Initially we could only find examples of the Common Earthball. However, on descending into the Black Wood we found a few more species (Common Puffball, The Deceiver and “Witches Egg” to name a few).
Having concluded the hunt, we enjoyed some refreshments at the Visitor Centre, during which we were treated to a ring-side view of a Sparrow Hawk catching and killing a pigeon.
Later, a few of the party wandered off to Wiggonholt Church, which has been decorated with some beautiful harvest style wreaths and bouquets.
