Welcome Back

It was wonderful to welcome everyone back for the start of our 2026/27 season! Whether you’re a returning member or considering joining us for the first time, our opening meeting was a great reminder of what makes being part of a camera club so rewarding – developing skills, sharing ideas, finding inspiration and, above all, enjoying photography together.

A Packed Summer of Photography

Before looking ahead, we took a look back at an action-packed summer of photowalks and community involvement. Members captured some fantastic images on outings to Bosham, Brooklands, Shoreham Beach, Brighton, Mill Hill Nature Reserve, Hotham Park, Cissbury Ring and Lindfield.

Club members also exhibited their work at Jacob’s Bagels in Bath Place and photographed a variety of local community events, including the Findon Village and Worthing Allotment summer shows, as well as Worthing Table Tennis events.

Trivia, Quizzes and Critiques

The meeting included a couple of photography-themed quizzes, featuring photographic trivia covering everything from Hasselblad cameras left on the Moon to 19th-century cat photography – along with a tricky “Guess the Subject” macro photo quiz (apologies for Vince’s pants!).

We also explored live image critiques, demonstrating how thoughtful cropping and processing can help strengthen an image and improve its overall composition.

What’s Ahead in Our 2026/27 Programme

We had a review of what’s coming up and hope it is a varied and engaging programme, for all, for the season ahead:

  • Inspirational Speakers: A mix of virtual and in-person talks covering landscape, wildlife, street, drone, creative and smartphone photography, featuring returning speakers Ken Scott, Andrew McCarthy and Janina Wilde.
  • Practical Workshops: Hands-on sessions, night photography, group critiques and editing challenges such as “Make It Your Own”.
  • Competitions: We have 14 competitions lined up this season, including four external competitions. Our first PDI Merit Competition takes place on 29 September. Entries open via PhotoEntry on 10 September and close at midnight on 24 September.
  • AI & Software Guidance: We clarified our policy on AI. While AI editing tools and assistants can be useful, all pixels in a submitted image must have been captured by the author. We also shared a guide to free editing software available across desktop, mobile and web platforms.
