Worthing Camera Club’s opening night was a little unusual this year. As we all know the current Coronavirus pandemic has brought many challenges for us all, not least how to keep our lovely club running. It was evident that other clubs were also having to ‘re-think’ their programmes and activities, and it soon became apparent that although we were not able to meet physically, we could offer a reduced programme via Zoom meetings.
So, this was the first of our Zoom meetings, which was attended by 18 members and it was lovely to see those friendly faces once again. The meeting ran quite smoothly considering we were on a steep learning curve. It was very useful to have some members, who were more proficient at using Zoom, giving hints and tips as the meeting progressed. It certainly helped the less confident members (like me) to feel at ease. It was great to see other members’ photographs once again and to have a general chat about our plans for the future.
Kathie our Programme Secretary, has worked tirelessly trying to revise the whole programme for the new season, at least until January 2021. Undoubtedly, future plans may change depending on Government guidelines and the programme will be amended and updated to reflect this. However, in the meantime we have already given details to members on how to join other club Zoom talks and presentations, which some members have joined for a small fee. The feedback so far has been very positive, and gives members the opportunity to see presentations by some highly skilled professional photographers. Our new programme will include discussions and presentations from our own members, as well as some competitions (yet to be confirmed), as well as giving further details of other club activities.
So members, it would be lovely to see more of you joining our Zoom meetings, and downloading the Zoom programme is very quick and easy. Please don’t be put off by more electronic gadgetry, as this is the only way forward for the club at the present time. You will still be able to ask for advice, and listen to hints and tips on all aspects of photography, photo editing, etc. etc. We would also welcome any suggestions on what you, as members, would like to see in the programme so please let us know. The only thing we can’t provide is tea, coffee and biscuits, but I am sure you will have that covered in the comfort of your own homes!!
As some members are joining other club Zoom presentations, which are also on a Tuesday, we will have a meeting every two weeks and the next meeting will be held in early October. This will be confirmed via the usual ‘groups.io’ email in the usual way, as well as on the ‘coming up’ page on this website.
