Mix and Match Competition

Thursday 14th December – Judge – Peter Meares

This year’s competition was hosted by Southwick Camera Club and was held in the Garden Room of Southwick Community Centre. The competition is between ourselves, Steyning and Southwick Camera Clubs and our judge for the evening was Peter Meares (Chair of Henfield Camera Club). Each of the Camera Clubs were well supported and all three clubs were ready to do battle against each other in the hope they could ‘outwit’ the opposition. We finished 3rd (or last) in last season’s competition, and so were hoping to improve our performance.

There were 42 rounds in total and the hosts (Southwick) started the evening by projecting the first image, which Steyning and Worthing had to match. Then each club took turns projecting their own images for matching. For the first few rounds we failed to pick up any points, but then we started picking up points along the way. There was much heckling and booing towards the judge (quite right), with cries of ‘that’s not a match’ and ‘it’s nothing like it’ coming from the floor.

The result wasn’t clear until the end, when it was announced that Southwick had finished third and that we had tied with Steyning on 29 points. It went to a tie break to decide an overall winner, which Steyning took, but an improvement on our result last season.

Grateful thanks go to Southwick for hosting, to Kathie and Nick for selecting our images for the competition and selecting our images on the night. Also thanks to Howard for projecting the images. He certainly developed his thighs with all of the getting up and down covering and uncovering the projector. Last, and certainly not least, to all of our members who could attend on the night, and to everyone for supporting our club.
