Last night saw the return of our Print competitions, with us competing in our first Print competition of the new season.

Our Merit competitions give all members the chance to compete within their own experience groups – Beginners, Intermediate and Advanced.

  • Beginner Class: 4 prints
  • Intermediate Class: 8 prints
  • Advanced Class: 24 prints
  • Total: 36 images

We were very pleased to welcome Steve McKie as our judge for the evening. Steve is also a member of Middleton Camera Club. He ensured that every print was fully reviewed and a rich critique with thoughtful and constructive comments given throughout all three classes.

That feedback is one of the most valuable parts of our competitions. Whether an image scores highly or not, Steve’s comments gives its author something to consider.

After judging each class, Steve selected a class winner:

  • Beginners: Stephen Brawn– East meets West at Worthing pier
  • Intermediate: David Parkinson – Good Vibrations
  • Advanced: John Nalaskowski – Chromatic vortex

Steve then had the difficult job of selecting the Overall Winner from the three class winners. This went to David Parkinson for Good Vibrations.

Congratulations to Stephen, David and John, and to everyone who entered. A competition isn’t just about the winners – 36 prints to review made for an enjoyable evening of photography.

And finally, a big thank you to Steve McKie for giving his time and for the care he put into judging and commenting on every image.
