Yesterday we had a lovely stroll on a loop, from Amberley to Houghton Bridge and back via the River Arun to Amberley Village.
The weather held off (a little rain before we set-off) and so we had good conditions for a walk. The start was a short, sharp climb, south up to the South Downs Way, from where there were views across Amberley and over to Bury. We then followed the South Downs Way, west down to Houghton and the River Arun. From here there were views north towards Amberley Castle and west to the village of Houghton. At this point the river meanders and we followed it north to a point opposite St John’s church, Bury. From there we followed the east bound path back into Amberley Village, passing along the northern edge of Amberley Castle and the 12th Century Church of St Michael.
As a final reward for our travails (3.5 miles of hard photography and chatting), we finished with refreshments and a further chat at Amberley Tea Rooms. It was a lovely morning and it is always good to meet up and interesting to see the variety of techniques and subjects chosen by each of the participants. Here are a few of our images (click on an image to enlarge it).
