Tuesday 3 March 2026
On Tuesday evening we held our Annual Print Panel Competition, where members present a panel of prints that work together as a cohesive set. This was an Open competition, meaning that all members competed together rather than within their usual classes. This always makes for an interesting and varied evening, with a wide range of styles, subjects and creative approaches on display.
A Print Panel competition is slightly different from a standard print competition. Rather than judging individual images in isolation, the judge considers how the images relate to each other as a group: looking at elements such as visual flow, consistency of theme, colour harmony, storytelling and overall presentation. As a result, members not only have to produce strong individual photographs but also carefully consider how the images work together as a set.
We were delighted to welcome Cherry Larcombe as our judge for the evening. Cherry brought a thoughtful and constructive approach to the judging, taking time to discuss both the individual images and how effectively they formed a unified panel. Her observations were insightful and encouraging, offering helpful suggestions while also highlighting the many strengths in the work submitted. Members clearly appreciated her balanced and supportive critique.
The standard of entries was extremely high, with panels covering a wide variety of subjects and creative themes. It was clear that a great deal of planning and thought had gone into both the photography and the presentation of each panel.
After careful consideration, Cherry selected the following panels for the top places (click on any image to make it larger):
1st Place: “Rhythm in Red Left Centre Right” by John Nalaskowski
2nd Place: “YOU are in my Frame” by Laurie Dean
3rd Place: “Tulips” by Jackie Tourle
Congratulations to John, Laurie and Jackie for their excellent work, and well done to everyone who entered and contributed to such an engaging and enjoyable evening.
Our thanks go to Cherry Larcombe for giving her time to judge the competition and for providing such valuable feedback. We are also grateful to all the members who entered panels and those who attended to support the event.
All of the Panels entered can be viewed on our Gallery here.
