SUMMARY:Workshop - Critique Evening
DESCRIPTION:A Critique Night offers members the opportunity to share their photographic work in a supportive\, small-group setting\, focused on constructive feedback and collaborative learning. You are invited to bring a small selection of images (prints or digital files) to present to the group. \nWe are divided into smaller groups to encourage open discussion and ensure each image receives thoughtful attention. Each image is viewed in turn\, with the author given the option to introduce their image and outline any specific areas where feedback is sought. \nDiscussion is guided by principles of respectful and constructive critique. Members are encouraged to highlight strengths\, explore compositional and technical aspects\, and suggest possible improvements or alternative approaches. The emphasis is on learning\, inspiration\, and the sharing of ideas rather than formal judging. \nCritique Nights are suitable for photographers of all levels\, offering a relaxed and engaging environment to develop skills\, gain fresh perspectives\, and build confidence in presenting and discussing photographic work.

SUMMARY:Speaker - Gerry Coe "Mobile Art"
DESCRIPTION:With a professional career spanning nearly 60 years\, Gerry Coe has witnessed the radical evolution of photography firsthand. Starting his journey at 15 in Belfast’s Jaymar Studio\, he eventually mastered everything from commercial and industrial work to aerial and architectural photography. Throughout his career\, Gerry has operated at the highest level of the craft\, earning prestigious Fellowships from the RPS\, MPA\, SWPP\, and BIPP\, and becoming the first person in history to win the Peter Grugeon Award twice. \nIn this talk\, Gerry explores his transition from the meticulous world of 10×8 large format cameras to the modern frontier of smartphone photography. He challenges the notion that professional art requires heavy\, traditional equipment\, drawing on his experience as the first photographer to be awarded a Fellowship for a panel of images captured entirely on an iPhone. \nProving that vision always precedes the tool\, Gerry will demonstrate that the “best camera” is a matter of perspective\, not just hardware. This session is an invitation to see the world through a new lens and discover the untapped artistic potential of the device in your pocket. \nNon-members are welcome to join us for this talk. Tickets are available here. \nTo see more of Gerry’s work visit his website: iphone-art.uk/work \nFollow him on Instagram: @coeiphoneart \nAnd on Facebook here

SUMMARY:Workshop - Multiple exposure or Flash photography (TBD)
DESCRIPTION:Workshop Option 1: The Art of Multiple Exposure\nTitle: Beyond the Single Frame: Layering Your Creative Vision \nStep away from traditional “one-shot” photography and explore the ethereal world of in-camera composites. This workshop is designed for photographers who want to push their creative boundaries and learn how to blend textures\, shapes\, and moments into a single\, cohesive piece of art. \nWhat you will learn: \n\n\nThe Power of Pre-visualisation: How to “see” a final image before taking the first shot and choose subjects that layer effectively. \n\n\nTechnical Blending Modes: An overview of Additive\, Average\, Bright\, and Dark blending modes (depending on camera models). \n\n\nBalance and Composition: Managing light and dark areas to ensure layers harmonise rather than overlap into a cluttered mess. \n\n\nAbstract & Narrative Art: Using multiple exposures to create everything from “ghostly” movement to impressionistic landscapes. \n\n\n\nWorkshop Option 2: Mastering Flash Photography\nTitle: Sculpting with Light: Taking Control of the Flash \nFlash photography doesn’t have to be intimidating or produce “flat” images. This workshop demystifies artificial light\, moving from the basics of flash exposure to the creative art of sculpting a subject. Whether you are interested in portraits or macro work\, this session will turn your flash into a powerful creative tool. \nWhat you will learn: \n\n\nThe Physics of Light: Understanding the Inverse Square Law and how distance affects the intensity and quality of your light. \n\n\nFlash vs. Ambient: Learning to balance your flash with existing room light for a natural\, professional look. \n\n\nThe Power of Modification: How to use umbrellas\, softboxes\, and bounce techniques to soften harsh shadows. \n\n\nOff-Camera Techniques: An introduction to using triggers to move the light source away from the camera for more dramatic\, three-dimensional results.
