DESCRIPTION:In anticipation of the South Downs Astrophotography Competition (usual closing date mid-January) we will be going out to capture some night sky images\, from the top of Bignor Hill. \nAs a reminder last year’s competition had the following categories (so no excuses for any member not to attend). \nSouth Downs Dark Skyscapes – Capture a dramatic star-studded or moon-lit photograph of the landscape showing the cosmos above it. Photographs of the “Northern Lights” are also very welcome. \nSouth Downs Life at Night – Capture an amazing shot of living things in the National Park. This can include wildlife\, people\, trees\, plants or fungi! It could be a picture of people stargazing or an evening or night-time community event (like a Camera Club Outing). \nFrom the South Downs to Deep Space – One for the serious galactic adventurer! Capture a breathtaking telescopic image showing constellations\, galaxies\, nebulas\, planets and more taken from within the South Downs National Park. \nThe Meteoric Mobile Phone Category – Capture a wonderful shot of the South Downs dark skies on your Smartphone. We’re looking for all kinds of night-time shots\, from selfies to landscapes\, buildings\, wildlife\, moons\, stars\, and group shots. See what your phone can capture.

Members are encouraged to highlight strengths\, explore compositional and technical aspects\, and suggest possible improvements or alternative approaches. The emphasis is on learning\, inspiration\, and the sharing of ideas rather than formal judging. \nCritique Nights are suitable for photographers of all levels\, offering a relaxed and engaging environment to develop skills\, gain fresh perspectives\, and build confidence in presenting and discussing photographic work.

SUMMARY:Outing: Hotham Park\, Bognor Regis
DESCRIPTION:A relaxed photowalk through Hotham Park\, one of Bognor Regis’s most photogenic locations. The park offers a diverse range of subjects\, from historic architecture to natural landscapes and detailed close-up opportunities. \nOur walk will include the elegant Hotham Park House\, built in 1792 by Sir Richard Hotham\, where the distinctive clock tower provides excellent opportunities for architectural studies\, silhouettes\, and creative framing through the surrounding trees. Throughout the grounds\, the impressive wooden carvings of Alice in Wonderland characters offer engaging subjects for portrait-style compositions\, selective focus techniques\, and candid images of visitors interacting with the sculptures. \nThe park’s boating lake can provide beautiful reflections of the sky and surrounding trees\, particularly in calm conditions or after rainfall\, making it an ideal setting for landscape photography. We will also explore the restored Mediterranean and Tropical Gardens\, home to a wide variety of specimen trees and seasonal flowers\, offering plenty of opportunities for close-up\, macro\, and nature photography. \nSuitable for photographers of all abilities\, this photowalk encourages participants to experiment with composition\, light\, reflections\, architectural detail\, and creative close-up techniques in a varied and attractive park setting.
