Please see the Programme for a full list of confirmed activities so far this season. These include Zoom meetings with Steyning, Middleton, and Chichester Camera Clubs – these need to be booked in advance. Worthing Camera Club activities will be listed below:
24th November 2020 – 1st PDI Merit Competition – Judge: Rob de Ruiter
We are holding our first PDI Competition of the season on Tuesday 24th. This will of course be via Zoom, and as a result the judge will need to see our entries 4 days before the competition. (All judges are asking to see entries in advance.) So to allow time for this, the deadline for entries is 10.00 a.m. on Thursday November 19th. As usual, please feel free to put your entries in well before the deadline!
This is a PDI Merit Competition and you should all be familiar with the rules and procedures, but all the information is on this website under the ‘Competitions’ tab, and has also been sent via the ‘groups.io’ email in the usual way. So get those entries in, and let’s have a good evening on the 24th.
10th November 2020 – ‘PDI Taken in Autumn 2020’
Members are invited to join our Zoom meeting this evening and bring along some of their Autumn 2020 images to share with the club, or any images from previous years during Autumn – perhaps a favourite place? It doesn’t matter how many you can muster – just one or two would be fine with a little information on where/when it was taken. There are many changes in our natural world this time of year, and not everyone is able to take advantage of going out and enjoying the Autumn spectacle that we have all come to love. So if you can, please share those lovely photos for a most enjoyable evening. Don’t forget if you need any help on setting up Zoom, please contact the Committee who will be very willing to help. Our Zoom meetings are very relaxed and enjoyable and we would really love to see you all again.
5th November 2020 – ‘Fireworks’
This event will not be going ahead.
27th October 2020 – ‘Members Present’
The next Zoom meeting will be held on Tuesday 27th October which is a ‘Members Present’ evening. We really need you to join in, and you have two weeks to think about it, all you need to do is give a brief talk 5-10 minutes. To be honest it isn’t that daunting as you won’t be standing up in front of everyone, which makes it so much easier. You can talk about anything, your favourite type of photography with perhaps a few examples, what you did during lockdown, a holiday, or just a few photos you like and why, a place you like to visit or a different hobby you enjoy. The options are endless, so get your thinking caps on. You don’t need to send anything beforehand, just prepare what you would like to show and share your screen when you talk. If you would like some support on how to use Zoom there will be plenty of help available on the night. So please come along either as a participant, or a spectator, and have a great evening. We really look forward to seeing you.
13th October 2020 – ‘Make it your Own’
This is a fun competition where members can edit 3 photographs from a chosen selection. Just choose your 3 base photos, and from there you can do whatever you like with them …… add things from anywhere, change the colours use filters, anything goes. This is for FUN and an opportunity to play with any editing software you have, or there are loads of free ones out there. When you have finished your editing, these can be sent to the PDI Competition email in the usual way.
Please note: Due to issues downloading the ‘Make it your own’ images, the deadline for entries has been extended to midnight on Sunday 11th October. A email will be sent via the ‘groups.io’ giving full details. Good luck everyone and we hope to see some great creations!
6th October 2020 – 7.15pm for 7.30pm start
This is the date scheduled for our next ‘get to know Zoom’ meeting, especially for those who did not join us last time, but of course the meeting is open for all members. Please contact the Committee if you need any help on setting up Zoom, which is quite easy. We do hope you can join your old friends for a fun evening, see some lovely photographs, and learn something new at the same time.
25th September 2020
The 2020-21 programme is now published on the ‘Programme tab’. The committee have decided to hold several Zoom meetings on the Second and Fourth Tuesday of the month until at least January 2021. You will see that we can join the Zoom speakers’ talks from Middleton, Steyning and Chichester for a small fee. In addition to the Zoom meetings, there are a few ‘socially distanced’ outings – weather permitting, and providing the current rules don’t change. We may need to amend the programme in due course.
22nd September 2020
Following our first Zoom meeting of the new season, please see the ‘posts’ tab for further details.
17th September 2020
It is encouraging to see some members are taking advantage of joining Zoom meetings organised by other clubs, and it appears many clubs are on a ‘Zoom’ learning curve. We are very pleased to confirm Worthing Camera Club now has a Zoom Account, and members will be sent a ‘link’ to join a welcome meeting to be held on Tuesday 22nd September in the evening (time will be confirmed in the ‘link’ e-mail). The Committee will be informing members what will be forthcoming in the new programme, however this is still being finalised. We do hope as many members can join us for an ‘unusual’ start to the 2020/21 season.
21st August 2020
Unfortunately, as many of you will be aware, the situation regarding Coronavirus is still very much part of our lives. Regretably the Committee have reluctantly agreed that Worthing Camera Club will not be re-commencing in September as was originally planned. However, it is hoped that the programme will commence in January 2021 but this is very much dependant on the Coronavirus situation. The Committee continue to work in the background organising summer outings wherever possible, and the Programme Secretary has been working extremely hard to move dates forward and secure dates for speakers and judges. In the event that the club will be unable to re-commence in January 2021 with a revised programme, the whole programme scheduled to commence for this September will be moved to September 2021. Further details will be published when finalised.
In the meantime, we have had invitations to join Zoom meetings with Middleton and Steyning Camera Clubs, as well as links to other photographic events. Members will be notified via the groups.io e-mail in the usual way.
23rd June 2020
Due to the relaxing of the Coronavirus social distancing guidelines, a Summer Programme has been organised for club members. Details will be sent to all members when finalised.
Re: Coronavirus (COVID-19)
With regard to the Prime Minister’s recent news conference in which he tells all of us to avoid social contact, it is now clear that the time has come to cancel the rest of the our programme for this season. It is a shame and very disappointing but we must try to protect our members and the wider community.
In addition, the warden of the Quaker Meeting House where our meetings take place, has informed the Committee that they have cancelled our club sessions until further notice.
We hope all members keep safe and well, and hope to see you all for the new season starting in September.
